It seems apparent that large hedge funds have been allowed, in the past and currently, to short publicly beloved companies into bankruptcy. They have been allowed to do this by self reporting their short positions. It seems to be common knowledge that naked shorting is also part of their strategy. How can you have valid price discovery of a company if dark pool trading is allowed? As an individual, retail investor, it seems the odds are stacked against me.
