As a citizen of the United States, I expect the SEC to protect investors from malicious and illegal activity in regard to market manipulation and stock price manipulation. Hedgefunds, investment companies, banks, and other financial institutions are able to manipulate the price of a stock by short selling it or naked short selling. Short selling ETFs are another strategy used to manipulate the price of a stock. By requiring the short data of ETFs to be reported, it will help determine if the price of a stock is being manipulated.
