this needs to be fully transparent - there are people who own stock baskets in their 401k's and these hedgefunds are shorting these same stocks and at the same time borrowing the same shares from the ETF's - so 401k owners are lending shares unbeknownst to them to the companies that are shorting the stocks they own. So the fund owner makes a percent off the loaned shares and the fund investors get their stocks driven into the ground - sorry your stocks didn't do so well - well stop loaning our shares to companies that are shorting them
