Short sales should be reported on the consolidated public stock ticker tape just like normal buy and sell trades. Daily market reporting should list at end of NYSE trading day or 5 PM EST. Shares traded, shares sold short for the day, dollar amount of shares sold short for the day. Total shares short outstanding. Total dollar of outstanding short shares, it is the price shorted at. Also, number of shares bought to close out short positions, dollar amount of short positions closed out bu a market buy.
It can be done by adding two trade types, shares shorted, price, number of shares, date time. The second trade to report is ticker, date time, shares bought to close a short position, price.
