Raising the reporting threshold to such a high number will reduce public companies' opportunity to know more about who their shareholders are. That will in turn reduce transparency to the public and ultimately reduce the confidence of the US market. However stray they may have become previously, fair weights and measures are a vital requirement of the US economic system.
