In the past, longer settlement times have been unfortunately necessary due to technological limitations. This, however, is no longer the case. Given that t+2 settlement allows for high risk and unfair practices with the potential to destabilize the market and place retail investors at a disadvantage vis-a-vis market makers and brokers, I urge the commission to not only adopt t+1, but also consider t+0 in order to bring greater stability, transparency, and fairness to the market. Now that it is feasible to do so, it would be the height of irresponsibility to not take this course of action. Without regulation, actors will continue to exploit all loopholes available to them. Only central regulation can stabilize and level this aspect t of the market.
