I think we need a system where there is no gap between when a person pays for stock and when they receive it. I find it hard to believe that with the speed of today's computing + communications technology this can't be done. When I order something online, it takes a while to deliver because it has to physically be shipped to my home. When I purchase stock, the only thing being "shipped" are 0's and 1's. A company only has so many shares in existence. When someone wants to buy one of those shares, they should receive at the time of payment and know for certain, with proof they can verify themselves, that they own that share. No IOU's. No "we'll find it later". No failing to find it. No middlemen having to post capital. Too much trouble has happened already because of these things - money for stock, settled immediately.
