I follow the market daily and have been watching the news on the outcome of what caused the 'flash crash'. As a former junior trader for a prop firm I was learning the business back in 2008. (The firm has since closed as of 2009.) The trading desk used the software Pacmid Technologies - The Leader in Direct Market Access Trading Solutions . Within this software there is the ability to hide orders. I never used this feature but was surprised to find that the ability to do this was fair trading. I have also seen the 'flash orders' in the market maker window that have been discussed as a possible cause as well. I hope this may help in finding the resolution to the problem and can provide some transparency to clean trading.
