Excessive profit-taking is a threat to basic democracy, the foundation of our country. Our constitutional founders would have been astounded and dismayed at the excesses of CEO pay witnessed today, and with the great insight of the 'Constitutional moment' would have feared for the future of essential democracy in the U.S.
And indeed, their fears have been clearly realized in today's decline of the middle class that has resulted from the gross disparity in sharing the fruits of labor at all levels. This extracting of excessive corporate pay is in fact a naked act of power, not right, representing not accomplishment but theft.
