The SEC and its commissioners should complete work on a rule requiring political disclosure from public companies, in the interests of their shareholders. Businesses should not be able to use backdoor political channels like nonprofits or associations to do their political bidding, and shareholders have a right to know how executives are using company resources for political purposes, just like any other use of corporate funds. Companies should also have to report on the return on investment of their political spending, for example, whether the politicians they funded voted to further the corporation's interests.
