My husband and I are small investors for our retirement. We primarily invest in mutual funds but also invest in specific businesses within various industries. While we are small investors in comparison, our investments make up a large portion of our portfolio. We are concerned that this change in regulation will impede the growth of some of our investments. These businesses are already being regulated by the EPA for actual pollution but these new disclosures would put undue pressure on the companies we invest in to spend extra money on compliance in order to stay in the good graces of larger investment forms. These extra steps won't actually keep them from polluting more but will cause them to incur more expense and cause a decrease in revenue and growth.
