While I appreciate and support the need to conserve our environment and steward the resources we have been blessed with for future generations, I am concerned about the SECs enhanced climate disclosure proposal for several reasons. First, the enhanced disclosure proposal appears to circumvent Congress and the democratic process. Second, the proposal would force companies to follow a one-size-fits-all reporting process that would disadvantage smaller companies and publicly traded companies. Moreover, implementing enhanced climate disclosure requirements may also hinder market competition and economic productivity. Third, companies are already required to disclose climate risks per the SECs 2010 guidelines, which are more workable given the many different situations American companies face.
