As a retail investor, I am concerned about the recent move towards new standards related to climate disclosure for publicly traded companies. These new requirements will raise the cost of entry for new IPOs, and will hurt smaller and newer companies more than larger corporations. This could prevent me and other investors from being able to invest in these companies, as they may decline to release an IPO at all. This would also put public companies at a disadvantage compared to private companies, which seems fundamentally unfair. All businesses contribute to climate issues, so any solution should apply to all businesses equally. If not, the harm will ultimately trickle down to hurt retail investors like me.
