As a retail investor, the prospect of increased reporting requirements concerns me. Extensive reporting regulations are already one of the biggest costs of filing an IPO, and needlessly increasing these requirements could very well prevent many private businesses from going public. This would disproportionately harm small businesses and retail investors by limiting small businesses' access to funding through public equity and limiting retail investors' investment options, as we do not have access to private investments like larger funds and high net worth investors. Companies are already required to disclose any costs or risks related to federal, state and international environmental regulations. Considering these points, I see no good that could result from increased reporting requirements.
