As an investor I am concerned that these disclosures will have a negative effect on the market value of these business. I am concerned that the pressure exerted by larger funds will cause businesses to become less effective proceeding less products and increasing costs in order to meet these standards. Businesses are already required to disclose climate risks to their investors but these new disclosure would put them in a one size fits all category. The fact this would only apply to public companies is also a concern to me. It seems to be an attempt at climate policy regulation within going through congress. I am all for EPA regulation on pollution but these new regulations from the SEC seem to be an end run around our normal regulatory system.
