Chair Gary Gensler,
I strongly believe that the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) should require companies and banks to fully disclose information about their climate risks, contribution to climate change (including total direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions), and political spending. They also should disclose other related sustainability issues like fair treatment of workers and communities, diversity, equity and inclusion, environmental and economic benefits and harms. For too long, corporations and banks have hidden their contributions to the climate crisis and misled the public about their ability to play a role in stopping it.
The SEC has a responsibility and opportunity to stop this corporate greenwashing by requiring meaningful disclosure. As a stakeholder in the economy and financial system, a member of society who cares deeply about our planet, this information matters to me. I want the SEC to make sure it is readily accessible.
