I find it appalling that the SEC would even consider semi-annual statements rather that quarterly statements for public companies to report their financial results to these who have investments with those companies. In a world where markets change quickly, consumers need to have a regular accounting of how their investments are performing and the ability to act upon those changes when they receive notice. Not everyone uses the internet to access that information. My bank sends me monthly statements as do all my utilities, phone providers and credit cards. The public companies who handle a major part of my financial future - including my retirement funds have to track those funds on a day to day basis and can certainly afford to continue with formal quarterly statements to their customers.
