I write to oppose 24 hour trading. Retail investors comprise 20%-37% of daily US equity trading volume. Trading has become cheaper and more accessible than ever, with millions entering the market without any knowledge or ability to properly analyze the companies they are trading. It is well established by many successful investors that investors tend to lean short sighted. Stocks are hardly seen as owning a slice of a company anymore and rather as an opportunity to make extra money, using speculation to govern decision making. It may be wise as a market research option to ask brokerage companies to poll investors to see how many actually read 10-Ks, check financial statements, or otherwise research a company prior to making purchases or sales. Trading burnout is already prevalent in the current market and will worsen with 24 hour trading. For the health of the country, 24 hour trading should not be approved. When making policy changes in the financial markets, unintended consequences can result in catastrophy.
