I believe that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission needs to require corporate managers to be honest with their shareholders and let them know their long-term plans. I am a shareholders and as such have a right to know, for example: - if oil executives are trying to buy off politicians to slow progress on addressing climate change - whether the company is cultivating diversity on its board - if it is moving profits abroad to avoid paying taxes in the U.S These are just a sampling of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) risks that I expect the SEC to ask public companies to disclose to their shareholders, as well as the public.
