Dear Members of the Securities and Exchange Commission:
Crooks, Wall Street and governments (too often) like to work in dark secrecy, but they scatter and disband in the bright sunlight of information. As far as I am concerned secret and large private donations aim to subvert democracy, not to support it. They are out to twist the laws in their favor.
WE, THE PEOPLE, need and deserve better. Who is afraid of democracy? I am not. But I am afraid of those who want to subvert it. it sounds strange for me to say it, but POWER TO WE THE PEOPLE. Let's get it back.
It's long past time to end secret political spending by corporations.
So I strongly support the SEC issuing a rule in the near future that would require publicly traded corporations to publicly disclose all their spending on political activities.
Both shareholders and the public deserve to know how much a given corporation spends on politics (directly and through intermediaries), and which candidates are being promoted or attacked.
Thank you for considering my comment.
Sincerely,
Harold Calder
