I am writing to urge the Securities and Exchange Commission to issue a rule requiring publicly traded corporations to publicly disclose all their political spending – and to do so immediately.
Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission struck at the heart of our representative democracy. This disclosure is a step in saving our government from a elite group of special interests that control much of the wealth of the country. It has got to stop!
As a shareholder, I find it particularly troubling that my money may be used for such nefarious deeds and causes that I oppose. Shareholders must be fully informed as to how much corporations spend on politics and politicians.
