I am writing to urge the Securities and Exchange Commission to issue a rule requiring publicly traded corporations to publicly disclose all their political spending – and to do so this year.
I am deeply concerned about the role of money in our democracy. I believe money's influence is altering political perspective, giving some voters more of a voice than others, and potentially increasing corruption in our government. We already, in my view, have the strong appearance of political votes utterly dependent upon the financial interests of those who've supported campaigns.
I believe we are in very serious need of making public whose money goes where so as better to understand and limit improper effects.
