Director, Division of Trading and Markets

Stephen Luparello was named Director of the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Division of Trading and Markets in February 2014.
Mr. Luparello previously was a partner at the law firm of WilmerHale, specializing in broker-dealer compliance and regulation, securities litigation, and enforcement. He joined WilmerHale after 16 years at the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and its predecessor, the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD), where he last served as FINRA Vice Chairman. Before the NASD, Mr. Luparello was the chief of staff to then-Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chairman Mary Schapiro. Prior to that, he spent nine years at the SEC as counsel to then-Commissioner Schapiro, and as a branch chief and staff attorney in the Division of Market Regulation, now the Division of Trading and Markets.
Mr. Luparello received his B.A. from LeMoyne College and his law degree from Washington and Lee University.
