Cash and Cash Equivalents Cash and cash equivalents are primarily held in two financial institutions and are uninsured except for the minimum Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation coverage and have original maturity dates of three months or less. As of September 30, 2017 and December 31, 2016, bank balances totaling approximately $3.7 million and $2.1 million, respectively, were uninsured.
