Short-term investments as of December 31, 2018 were comprised of investments in corporate bonds (debt securities) and investments in equity securities of publicly held companies (equity). For the years ended December 31, 2018 and 2017, proceeds from the sale of debt securities were $65,144,000 and$467,790,000, respectively. For the year ended December 31, 2018, proceeds from the sale of equity securities was $1,496,000. There were no short-term investments as of December 31, 2017.
