Millicom rolls out GSM networks in Latin America


New York, London and Luxembourg – December 19, 2003 – Millicom International Cellular S.A. (“Millicom”) (Nasdaq: MICC) today announces that it has selected a supplier to overlay its existing TDMA networks in Guatemala (Comcel) and Paraguay (Telecel) with GSM 800 networks. According to the deal signed on December 15, 2003, the nationwide networks will become operational during the second quarter of 2004.

Marc Beuls, President and Chief Executive Officer of Millicom International Cellular commented: “This move is part of our ongoing strategy to roll-out GSM services across our operations, in order to create further product and procurement synergies. The rollout of GSM in Latin America will enable us to accelerate growth as a result of the lower cost and increased functionality of GSM technology.”
