     Stone Energy Corporation (the “Company”) announced that its founder and chairman, Mr. James H. Stone, passed away January 14, 2008. Mr. Stone served as a director and chairman of the board of the Company since 1993.
Item 8.01. Other Events.
     On January 15, 2008, the Company issued a press release announcing that its founder and chairman, Mr. James H. Stone, passed away January 14, 2008. Mr. Stone served as a director and chairman of the board of the Company since 1993. The press release is furnished as Exhibit 99.1 to this Current Report on Form 8-K and is incorporated by reference into this Item 8.01.
