Barnes & Noble, Inc. (the “Company”) regrets to report the death of its lead independent director, William Sheluck, Jr., who passed away on December 29, 2007. Mr. Sheluck was a member of the Company’s Board of Directors since its inception in 1993. Mr. Sheluck served on the Audit Committee and was the Co-Chair of the Corporate Governance & Nominating Committee of the Company’s Board.

At the present time, no decision has been made regarding a replacement for Mr. Sheluck.
