7. Deferred Rent

In connection with its corporate headquarters lease entered into in July 2008, the Company received a tenant improvement allowance of $1,958 from the landlord. This lease incentive was recorded as leasehold improvements and deferred rent and is being amortized as part of rent expense on a straight-line basis over the life of the lease. The Company’s subsidiary Euroxa S.a.r.l. entered into a new office lease in Paris France in May 2012 with a landlord incentive totaling $148 related to four months free rent, which is also being amortized as part of rent expense on a straight line basis over the life of the lease. In addition, the Company’s facility leases typically contain other straight-line payment features. The difference between the straight-line rent expense of the lease and the cash payments is recorded as deferred rent. Deferred rent at January 31, 2014 and January 31, 2013 is as follows:
