Marketable Securities

Marketable securities consist primarily of investments in the Company's sponsored mutual funds, excluding the investments in consolidated investment products discussed in Note 15. For the three and nine months ended September 30, 2017, the Company recognized a net realized gain of $0.3 million and net realized loss of $1.6 million, respectively, on trading securities. For the three and nine months ended September 30, 2016, the Company recognized a net realized gain of $0.1 million and a net realized loss of $0.3 million, respectively, on trading securities.
