Item 7.01 Regulation FD Disclosure

On May 19, 2021, The AES Corporation ("AES" or the "Company") notified holders of the Company’s units issued pursuant to the Purchase Contract and Pledge Agreement dated as of March 11, 2021 by and between the Company and Deutsche Bank Trust Company Americas as Purchase Contract Agent, Collateral Agent, Custodial Agent and Securities Intermediary (the “Purchase Contract and Pledge Agreement”) of an irrevocable election to pay all Contract Adjustment Payments (as defined therein) beginning with, and including, the Contract Adjustment Payment scheduled to be paid on February 15, 2022, solely in cash (subject in all respects to the Company’s right to defer such payments).
