Deductions represent write-offs, lease termination payments, insurance claim payments during the period and net foreign currency translation adjustments.

Self-insurance accruals include vehicle liability, workers’ compensation, property damage, cargo and medical and dental, which comprise our self-insurance programs. Amounts charged to earnings include developments in prior year selected loss development factors which charged earnings by $9 million and $4 million in 2016 and 2015, respectively, and benefited earnings by $14 million in 2014.
