Factors Affecting Performance [Text Block]
How did the Fund perform last year?
  • For the reporting period ended December 31, 2024, the Fund's BlackRock Shares returned 16.07%.
  • For the same period, the S&P 500® Index returned 25.02%.
What contributed to performance?
Stock selection in the financials, information technology, and consumer staples sectors contributed to absolute performance. In financials, a position in a Nebraska-based diversified insurance and investment company was a key contributor. The outperformance in technology stemmed from an investment in a prominent software company that was among the mega-cap, technology-related stocks that led the broader market higher in 2024. A big-box discount retailer helped results in consumer staples.
What detracted from performance?
Stock selection in the healthcare and energy sectors detracted. In healthcare, a position in a large-cap pharmaceutical stock had the largest adverse impact. The shortfall in energy resulted from a downturn in an oil services company expected to come under pressure from reduced investment by major producers. While no other sectors detracted from absolute performance, the Fund lost ground in the food products industry largely due to a position in a prominent snack company.
