Related Party Transactions Disclosure [Text Block]	Transactions with Related Parties The Company made a contribution of $0.8 million in 2017 to the M/I Homes Foundation, a charitable organization having certain officers and directors of the Company on its Board of Trustees. The Company had a receivable of $0.2 million at both December 31, 2017 and 2016 due from an executive officer, relating to amounts owed to the Company for split-dollar life insurance policy premiums. The Company will collect the receivable either directly from the executive officer, if employment terminates other than by death, or from the executive officer’s beneficiary, if employment terminates due to death of the executive officer.
