5. Employee Retirement Plans

The Company has two unfunded supplemental retirement plans for certain employees. For the six-month and three-month periods ended April 30, 2011 and 2010, the Company recognized costs and made payments related to its supplemental retirement plans as follows (amounts in thousands):
