Portfolio Turnover [Heading] Portfolio Turnover
Portfolio Turnover [Text Block] The fund pays transaction costs, such as commissions, when it buys and sells securities (or "turns over" its portfolio). A higher portfolio turnover rate may indicate higher transaction costs and may result in higher taxes when fund shares are held in a taxable account. These costs, which are not reflected in annual operating expenses or in the example, affect the fund's performance. During the most recent fiscal year, the fund's portfolio turnover rate was 94 % of the average value of its portfolio.
Portfolio Turnover, Rate 94.00%
Expense Example Narrative [Text Block] This example helps compare the cost of investing in the fund with the cost of investing in other funds. Let's say, hypothetically, that the annual return for shares of the fund is 5% and that the fees and the annual operating expenses for shares of the fund are exactly as described in the fee table. This example illustrates the effect of fees and expenses, but is not meant to suggest actual or expected fees and expenses or returns, all of which may vary. For every $10,000 you invested, here's how much you would pay in total expenses if you sell all of your shares at the end of each time period indicated:
Strategy [Heading] Principal Investment Strategies
Strategy Narrative [Text Block] Normally investing at least 80% of assets in equity securities of companies in emerging markets, including equity investments that are tied economically to emerging markets, that Fidelity Management & Research Company LLC (FMR) (the Adviser) believes have proven or improving sustainability practices based on an evaluation of such companies' individual environmental, social and governance (ESG) profile. Emerging markets include countries that have an emerging stock market as defined by MSCI, countries or markets with low- to middle-income economies as classified by the World Bank, and other countries or markets that the Adviser identifies as having similar emerging markets characteristics. The Adviser considers a number of factors to determine whether an issuer is located in or tied economically to a particular country or region including: whether a third-party vendor has assigned a particular country or region classification to the issuer or included the issuer in an index representative of a particular country or region; the issuer's domicile, incorporation, and location of assets; whether the issuer derives at least 50% of its revenues from, or has at least 50% of its assets in, a particular country or region; the source of government guarantees (if any); and the primary trading market or listing exchange. Whether an issuer is located in or tied economically to a particular country can be determined under any of these factors. Equity securities represent an ownership interest, or the right to acquire an ownership interest, in an issuer. Equity securities include common stocks (including depositary receipts evidencing ownership of common stock), preferred stocks and other preferred securities, convertible securities, rights and warrants, and other securities, such as hybrid securities and trust preferred securities, believed to have equity-like characteristics. Derivative instruments that provide investment exposure to the investments above or exposure to one or more market risk factors associated with such investments are included in the fund's 80% policy, consistent with the fund's investment policies and limitations with respect to investments in derivatives. Normally investing primarily in equity securities. Using the Adviser's proprietary ESG ratings process to evaluate the current state of an issuer's sustainability practices using a data-driven framework that includes both proprietary and third-party data, and also provide a qualitative forward-looking assessment of an issuer's sustainability outlook provided by the Adviser's fundamental research analysts and ESG team. The Adviser's ESG ratings of issuers are derived from multiple factors, including an issuer's environmental profile, which may include, but is not limited to, carbon and toxic emissions, water management, waste management, vulnerability to the physical impacts of climate change, and research and investment into products, services, and energies that reduce emissions and/or provide opportunities to transition to less carbon-intensive products or operations. An assessment of an issuer's social profile includes, but is not limited to, its approach to diversity and inclusion, human capital management, data privacy, product safety and human rights. With respect to governance, the independence and diversity of an issuer's board, its compensation practices and board oversight of critical ESG issues are considered as part of the assessment. These factors are weighted based on how material the Adviser believes each factor is to an issuer's financial outlook, and not all factors may be applicable to all issuers. Investing in issuers that the Adviser believes deliver tangible environmental or social impact through core business operations. An assessment of the impact characteristics of an issuer may involve corporate engagement and an analysis of issuer alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals using qualitative analysis as well as proprietary or third-party data. For example, issuers that provide access to clean water, education, or clean energy through their core business may be considered to deliver tangible impact. Allocating investments across different emerging markets countries. In addition to the ESG ratings process, using fundamental analysis of factors such as each issuer's financial condition and industry position, as well as market and economic conditions, to select investments. Employing sustainable investing exclusion criteria to avoid investments in issuers that are directly engaged in, and/or derive significant revenue from, certain industries. Please see "Fund Basics - Investment Details - Sustainable Investing Exclusions" for additional information.

A higher portfolio turnover rate may indicate higher transaction costs and may result in higher taxes when fund shares are held in a taxable account. These costs, which are not reflected in annual operating expenses or in the example, affect the fund's performance. During the most recent fiscal year, the fund's portfolio turnover rate was 13 % of the average value of its portfolio.

Strategy Narrative [Text Block] Normally investing primarily in non-U.S. securities, including securities of issuers located in emerging markets. The Adviser considers non-U.S. securities to include investments that are tied economically to a particular country or region outside the U.S. Normally investing at least 80% of assets in securities of companies with small market capitalizations . The Adviser generally defines small market capitalization companies as those whose market capitalization is similar to the market capitalization of companies in the MSCI EAFE Small Cap Index or the MSCI ACWI ex USA Small Cap Index . Derivative instruments that provide investment exposure to the investments above or exposure to one or more market risk factors associated with such investments are included in the fund's 80% policy, consistent with the fund's investment policies and limitations with respect to investments in derivatives. Normally investing primarily in equity securities. Allocating investments across different countries and regions. Using fundamental analysis of factors such as each issuer's financial condition and industry position, as well as market and economic conditions, to select investments.

For purposes of the fund's policy to normally invest at least 80% of its assets in securities of companies principally engaged in the business activity or activities identified for the fund, Fidelity may consider a company to be principally engaged in the designated business activity or activities based on: (i) the level of a company's assets, income, sales, or profits that are committed to, derived from, or related to the designated business activity or activities, or (ii) whether a third party has given the company an industry or sector classification consistent with the designated business activity or activities. Whether a company is principally engaged in the designated business activity or activities can be determined under any of these factors. Derivative instruments that provide investment exposure to the investments above or exposure to one or more market risk factors associated with such investments are included in the fund's 80% policy, consistent with the fund's investment policies and limitations with respect to investments in derivatives. During the most recent fiscal year, the fund's portfolio turnover rate was 100 % of the average value of its portfolio.

Strategy Narrative [Text Block] Normally investing at least 80% of assets in securities of issuers in emerging markets and other investments that are tied economically to emerging markets. Derivative instruments that provide investment exposure to the investments above or exposure to one or more market risk factors associated with such investments are included in the fund's 80% policy, consistent with the fund's investment policies and limitations with respect to investments in derivatives. Normally investing primarily in common stocks. Allocating investments across different emerging markets countries. Using fundamental analysis of factors such as each issuer's financial condition and industry position, as well as market and economic conditions, to select investments.

A higher portfolio turnover rate may indicate higher transaction costs and may result in higher taxes when fund shares are held in a taxable account. This example illustrates the effect of fees and expenses, but is not meant to suggest actual or expected fees and expenses or returns, all of which may vary. Strategy [Heading] Principal Investment Strategies
Strategy Narrative [Text Block] Normally investing at least 80% of assets in securities of growth companies. Growth companies are companies the Adviser believes have above average growth potential. The Adviser considers a number of factors in determining a company's growth potential, such as whether the company is included in a third-party growth benchmark or classified as a growth company by a third-party vendor, if the company's projected earnings per share growth, sales growth per share or free cash flow growth or its trailing earnings per share growth is above the equity market median, if the company's research and development expenses exceed sales, general and administrative expenses, or if the company is raising capital to grow, fund or expand its business. A company's growth potential can be determined under any of these factors. Derivative instruments that provide investment exposure to the investments above or exposure to one or more market risk factors associated with such investments are included in the fund's 80% policy, consistent with the fund's investment policies and limitations with respect to investments in derivatives. Normally investing primarily in non-U.S. securities, including securities of issuers located in emerging markets. The Adviser considers non-U.S. securities to include investments that are tied economically to a particular country or region outside the U.S. Normally investing primarily in common stocks. Allocating investments across countries and regions. Using fundamental analysis of factors such as each issuer's financial condition and industry position, as well as market and economic conditions, to select investments.

Strategy [Heading] Principal Investment Strategies
Strategy Narrative [Text Block] Normally investing at least 80% of assets in securities of value companies. Value companies are companies the Adviser believes are undervalued in the marketplace. The Adviser considers traditional and other measures of value, such as whether the company is included in a third-party value benchmark or classified as a value company by a third-party vendor, whether the company's free cash flow yield is above the equity market median, whether the company's enterprise value (the total value of a company's outstanding equity and debt) relative to earnings is below the equity market median, or whether the company's price-to-book (P/B) ratio or projected price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio is below the equity market median. An issuer may be determined to be a value company under any of these factors. Normally investing primarily in common stocks. Allocating investments across different countries and regions.

For every $10,000 you invested, here's how much you would pay in total expenses if you sell all of your shares at the end of each time period indicated and if you hold your shares:

During the most recent fiscal year, the fund's portfolio turnover rate was 49 % of the average value of its portfolio.
Portfolio Turnover, Rate 49.00%

Expense Example Narrative [Text Block] This example helps compare the cost of investing in the fund with the cost of investing in other funds. Let's say, hypothetically, that the annual return for shares of the fund is 5% and that the fees and the annual operating expenses for shares of the fund are exactly as described in the fee table. This example illustrates the effect of fees and expenses, but is not meant to suggest actual or expected fees and expenses or returns, all of which may vary. For every $10,000 you invested, here's how much you would pay in total expenses if you sell all of your shares at the end of each time period indicated and if you hold your shares:
Strategy [Heading] Principal Investment Strategies
Strategy Narrative [Text Block] Normally investing at least 80% of assets in equity securities of companies that Fidelity Management & Research Company LLC (FMR) (the Adviser) believes have proven or improving sustainability practices based on an evaluation of such companies' individual environmental, social and governance (ESG) profile. Normally investing primarily in non-U.S. securities. The Adviser considers non-U.S. securities to include investments that are tied economically to a particular country or region outside the U.S. Allocating investments across different countries and regions.

During the most recent fiscal year, the fund's portfolio turnover rate was 95 % of the average value of its portfolio.

During the most recent fiscal year, the fund's portfolio turnover rate was 87 % of the average value of its portfolio.
Portfolio Turnover, Rate 87.00%
Strategy Narrative [Text Block] Normally investing at least 80% of assets in securities of issuers in emerging markets, including investments that are tied economically to emerging markets, that Fidelity Management & Research Company LLC (FMR) (the Adviser) believes have proven or improving sustainability practices, based on an evaluation of such companies' individual environmental, social and governance (ESG) profile. Derivative instruments that provide investment exposure to the investments above or exposure to one or more market risk factors associated with such investments are included in the fund's 80% policy, consistent with the fund's investment policies and limitations with respect to investments in derivatives. Normally investing primarily in equity securities. Using a quantitative portfolio construction and optimization model to select securities for the fund and capitalize on the Adviser's proprietary and third-party ESG ratings and research. Third-party ESG ratings will be considered in addition to the Adviser's ESG ratings in the quantitative portfolio construction and optimization process. Investing in either "growth" stocks or "value" stocks or both. This example illustrates the effect of fees and expenses, but is not meant to suggest actual or expected fees and expenses or returns, all of which may vary. Strategy [Heading] Principal Investment Strategies
Strategy Narrative [Text Block] Investing in securities issued throughout the world. Normally investing primarily in common stocks. Normally investing at least 80% of assets in stocks of commodities companies. Stocks are a type of equity security that represent an ownership interest in an issuer. Stocks include common stocks (including depositary receipts evidencing ownership of common stock) and preferred stocks. Commodities companies are those principally engaged in the energy, metals, and agriculture group of industries.  These companies may include, for example, integrated oil companies; companies engaged in the exploration and production of oil and gas; companies primarily involved in the production and mining of coal, related products, and other consumable fuels; fertilizer and agricultural chemicals companies; producers of aluminum and related products; companies engaged in producing or extracting metals and minerals; producers of gold, precious metals and minerals, and related products; producers of iron and steel; manufacturers of timber and related wood and paper products; and producers of agricultural products, including crop growers, owners of plantations, and companies that produce and process foods.
