Item 8.01. Other Events.
	On November 17, 2005, Merchants Bank (the "Bank") the main operating subsidiary of Merchants Bancshares, Inc. (the "Company") issued a press release included as Exhibit 99.1 to this Current Report on Form 8-K, which is incorporated herein by reference, announcing the appointment of Geoffrey R. Hesslink, 40, as Senior Vice President and Senior Lender of the Bank, effective January 1, 2006. Mr. Hesslink currently serves the Bank as a Vice President and Corporate Banking Officer.
