Capital shares

Preferred — We have authorized 10,000 Series A convertible preferred shares without par value. No preferred shares were outstanding in 2023, 2022 or 2021.

Common — We have 160,000 authorized common shares without par value. At October 31, 2023 and 2022, there were 98,023 common shares issued. At October 31, 2023 and 2022, the number of outstanding common shares, net of treasury shares, was 57,007 and 57,111, respectively.

Common shares repurchased as part of publicly announced programs during 2023, 2022 and 2021 were as follows:
