Terra’s UK joint venture idles production at Billingham ammonia plant

Sioux City, Iowa (December 8, 2008)—Terra Industries Inc. (NYSE symbol: TRA) (Terra) announced that on Dec. 5, 2008, GrowHow UK Ltd., a joint venture in which Terra holds a 50% stake, idled ammonia production at its Billingham, UK facility. The temporary shutdown is intended to keep product inventory and working capital under control in light of lower industrial ammonia demand resulting from the global economic slowdown. GrowHow UK Ltd. will restart the 550,000 ton-per-year ammonia plant when market conditions warrant resuming production.
