(a)	In the three and nine months ended September 30, 2011, the Company recorded net special charges of $11 million and $19 million, respectively, primarily related to legal costs incurred in connection with the slot transaction with Delta Air Lines, Inc. (“Delta”) that is described in Note 10 below and auction rate securities arbitration.
	In the three months ended September 30, 2010, the Company recorded $3 million in other net special charges. In the nine months ended September 30, 2010, the Company recorded net special charges of $10 million, which included a settlement and corporate transaction costs.
(b)	In the nine months ended September 30, 2010, the Company recorded a $16 million refund of ASIF previously paid to the Transportation Security Administration (“TSA”) during the years 2005 to 2009.
(c)	In the nine months ended September 30, 2010, the Company recorded $5 million in aircraft costs as a result of capacity reductions.
