The $1 million in unrealized losses at December 31, 2017 arose within the last 12 months and is related to the Company’s investment in one available-for-sale debt security with a fair value of $37 million. The contractual terms of this investment do not permit the issuer to settle the securities at a price less than the amortized cost basis of the investment. Because the Company does not intend to sell the investment and it is not more likely than not that it will be required to sell the investment before recovery of its amortized cost basis, which may be at maturity, the Company does not consider this investment to be other-than-temporarily impaired at December 31, 2017.
