    Recently Adopted Accounting Standards
In December 2019, the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) issued Accounting Standards Update (ASU) 2019-12, Simplifying the Accounting for Income Taxes. The guidance issued in this update simplifies the accounting for income taxes by eliminating certain exceptions to the guidance in Accounting Standards Codification (ASC) 740 related to the approach for intraperiod tax allocation, the methodology for calculating income taxes in an interim period, and the recognition for deferred tax liabilities for outside basis differences. ASU 2019-12 also simplifies aspects of the accounting for franchise taxes and enacted changes in tax laws or rates and clarifies the accounting for transactions that result in a step-up in the tax basis of goodwill. We adopted the standard on January 1, 2021. The new standard did not impact our financial statements.
For a discussion of other accounting standards that have been issued by the FASB but are not yet effective, refer to the Recent Accounting Standards section in our Annual Report on Form 10-K for the year ended December 31, 2020. These standards are not expected to have a material impact on our results of operations, financial condition or cash flows.
