8. Notes Receivable

The Company's notes receivable balances are classified as current or long-term based on the timing of amounts due. Long-term notes receivable is included within other non-current assets in the Consolidated Balance Sheet. Current and long-term notes receivable balances primarily relate to the Company's captive finance entity in China and entity in Mexico. The Company had a long-term note receivable balance related to the 2014 sale of Manitowoc Dong Yue. In 2021, the Company recorded $3.6 million of expense in engineering, selling and administrative expenses in the Consolidated Statement of Operations to fully reserve for the remaining net value of the note with Manitowoc Dong Yue. As of December 31, 2021, the Company had current and long-term notes receivable in the amounts of $16.7 million and $5.2 million, respectively. As of December 31, 2020, the Company had current and long-term notes receivable in the amounts of $13.6 million and $12.7 million, respectively.
