The service cost component of net periodic cost is recorded in selling, general and administrative expense and the non-service components are recorded in other expense in the statements of comprehensive income (loss).

Certain lump sum distributions paid to retirees triggered settlement accounting, resulting in the recognition of $1.4 million of expense for the three and six months ended June 30, 2023, and $0.9 million of expense for the three and six months ended June 30, 2022.
