IBM Credit Corporation today reported first-quarter 2000 net earnings of $96.7 million, an increase of 6 percent, compared with $91.3 million for the same 1999 period. The return on average equity was 16.9 percent, compared with 18.3 percent in the first quarter of 1999. In the first quarter of 2000, new customer financing originations* for acquisition of information technology products and services decreased 23 percent to $1.0 billion, compared with $1.3 billion in the first quarter of 1999. New commercial financing originations, providing working capital for inventory and accounts receivable financing, decreased by 15 percent to $2.8 billion in the first quarter of 2000, compared with $3.3 billion for the same 1999 period. At March 31, 2000, total assets were $14.9 billion, compared with $16.3 billion at December 31, 1999, a decrease of 9 percent.
