STARWOOD CONSIDERING TENDER OFFER FOR OWNER OF WESTIN MICHIGAN AVENUE

WHITE PLAINS, NY, August 4, 2003 — Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: HOT) announced today that it is considering commencing a tender offer for the limited partnership units of Westin Hotels Limited Partnership (“WHLP”), the owner of the Westin Michigan Avenue in Chicago, Illinois. Any such offer would be for all of the outstanding limited partnership units and would be conditioned on limited partners tendering units representing 50% of the outstanding Units plus one unit.

Two unsolicited tender offers are currently pending for WHLP Units — one offering $525 per Unit for up to 15% of the outstanding Units which is currently scheduled to expire at 5 PM on Monday August 4, 2003 and another offering $550 per Unit for up to approximately 59% of the outstanding Units which is currently scheduled to expire at 5 PM on Friday August 29, 2003. There are currently 135,600 limited partnership units outstanding in WHLP.

Subsidiaries of Starwood are the General Partner of WHLP and manage the Westin Michigan Avenue.
