The allowance for credit losses is a provision for uncollectible accounts receivable and unbilled receivables. The allowance is evaluated and adjusted to reflect our expected credit losses based on collection history and an analysis of the accounts receivables aging. The allowance is decreased by accounts receivable as they are written off. The allowance is adjusted periodically to reflect actual experience. The change in the allowance during 2021, 2020 and 2019 was as follows:
