Funding Arrangements	9. Funding Arrangements SBIR GRANT In June 2017, the Company was awarded a Small Business Innovation Research (“SBIR”) grant by the National Institute of Health (“NIH”) in the amount of $3.0 million. This grant is effective from September 15, 2017 to June 30, 2020 and in April 2020, the Company received an extension through June 30, 2021. The grant is funded on an ongoing basis based on periodic reports of qualifying expenditures reported by the Company to NIH. Under this grant, the Company received $0.4 million and $0 million during the three months ended September 30, 2020 and 2019, respectively. For the nine months ended September 30, 2020 and 2019, the Company received $0.7 million and $0.5 million, respectively. The Company recognized income of approximately $0.2 million and $0.4 million on expenses incurred during the three months ended September 30, 2020 and 2019, respectively, and $0.6 and $0.7 million during the nine months ended September 30, 2020 and 2019, respectively. The SBIR grant does not fall within the scope of ASC 606 as NIH does not meet the definition of a customer, and the grant from NIH was given for the benefit of public health rather than for monetary compensation. Accordingly, funding received under this grant is recognized in “Other income, net” in the condensed consolidated statements of operations and comprehensive loss.
