Other income or expense for the nine months ended September 30, 2026 primarily relates to net periodic benefit cost associated with our defined benefit plans, including expected returns on plan assets, and net foreign currency losses from financing activities. For the nine months ended September 30, 2025, other income or expense primarily related to pension termination costs and the expected returns on defined benefit plan assets.

As described in our Annual Report, we approved the termination of one of our two U.S. pension plans during 2024. The pension liability was fully settled in the first quarter of 2025, primarily through the purchase of annuity contracts totaling $97.7 million. As a result of the settlement, we recorded $16.3 million of pension termination costs for the nine months ended September 30, 2025 , which were primarily recognized in other income or expense.
