Depreciation expense for the three months ended June 30, 2023 and 2022 was $9.6 million and $8.5 million, respectively, and $18.7 million and $15.2 million for the six months ended June 30, 2023 and 2022, respectively. Newmark recorded an impairment charge of $0.5 million and $1.4 million for the three and six months ended June 30, 2023, respectively. Newmark did not record an impairment for the three and six months ended June 30, 2022, respectively. The impairment charge is included as a part of “Depreciation and amortization” on the accompanying unaudited condensed consolidated statements of operations.

Capitalized software development costs for the three months ended June 30, 2023 and 2022 were $3.4 million and $0.7 million, respectively, and $6.3 million and $1.1 million for the six months ended June 30, 2023 and 2022, respectively. Amortization of software development costs totaled $0.7 million and $0.4 million for the three months ended June 30, 2023 and 2022, respectively, and $1.3 million and $0.7 million for the six months ended June 30, 2023 and 2022, respectively. Amortization of software development costs is included as part of “Depreciation and amortization” on the accompanying unaudited condensed consolidated statements of operations.
